The Morality of War

I just read this long piece on the blog, Daily Kos. It is a very moving and blunt description of one liberal soldier's homecoming from Iraq. Almost as interesting as the original piece are the responses to it -- just about every perspective on the morality of war, the responsibility of individual soldiers, and the reactions of civilians to the war and its warriors is touched upon at some point. (There are also some inane exchanges in the midst of the comments that you can scroll quickly past.)

It is worth taking some time to read the article and then to browse the comments. I find it an excellent and moving demonstration of how there are no easy answers about this (or any) war, and no facile conclusions to be drawn about the people who fight those wars.
